Details of elements from the "Beaut Brute" Installation :

Taro Hattori's installation "Beaut Brute" uses highly detailed constructions of modern day assault weapons purposefully made to be translucent and see thru.  Subverting the sense of power guns/assault weapons usually evoke with his use of transparency, the artist transforms weapons into objects which lose their meaning and potency as the accessories of force and authority.

Artist Bio :

Taro Hattori received his BA in Clinical Psychology from Sophia University, Tokyo and his MFA in Time Arts/Video from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has also studied Theater Design at Rutgers University, New Jersey. He is the recipient of Kala Fellowship, Djerassi Resident Artists Award, Taipei Artist Village Fellowhip and others. Hattori's work has been exhibited at numerous venues, including Mission 17, San Francisco; Headlands Center for the Arts, Sausalito; Peter Miller Gallery, Chicago; the Chicago Cultural Center, the Asian American Arts Centre, NYC; the CEPA gallery, Buffalo; the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, Ssamzie Space, Seoul; and the Tokyo Art Theater.
